Guruji stopping the pulse

On the 11th day of January 2011 Shri Shailendra Sharma has allowed to take his electroencephalogram by a device called Emotiv EPOC 14-channel portable encephalograph. The software used was Emotive Research Software Development Kit.
During the measurement and recording Shri Shailendra Sharma was answering questions, imagining subjects and matters relating to his childhood, to most appealing and important moments in his life, talking to disciples, listening to music, singing and even stopping pulse on his right hand.

The following preliminary readings were registered (preliminary conclusions were drawn from some background reading of the author and an experience of testing 7 subjects previously, of which 6 were Shri Shailendra Sharma’s disciples.

Shri Shailendra Sharma’s delta waves appear to be fluctuating at lower range than compared to those subjects tested with that device before. As Delta waves are usually associated with deep sleep without dreams – the most inert state of human consciousness, then suggested interpretation is that Shri Shailendra Sharma’s brain is less influenced by this inert state of mind. Delta waves are also the only ones that are registered in the brain of the yet unborn child

Shri Shailendra Sharma’s theta waves are roaming high with every answer he gave and are generally fluctuating as high as above (!) the delta waves in magnitude. Theta waves are usually associated with twillight state of mind registered for several minutes between awake and asleep states. Theta waves are the least researched and some associate them with intuition and extra-sensoric perception. Another observation is that theta waves are going high when the answering a question which touches the inner self, i.e. matters of deep personal concern, as opposed to answers, which require manipulation or construction of information obtained from memory.

The suggested interpretation is that Shri Shailendra Sharma’s answers are from the heart and that his brain is constantly in twillight state, between awake and sleep. The twillight state of consciousness is the one that helps to connect to the inner self, to the intuition and see the ultimate truth. Also Shri Shailendra Sharma commented that twillight is the magical time when all the miracles happen. Another point to consider is that Theta waves are the ones that are registered as a ‘state of mind’ in children of up to 5-7 years old. Shri Shailendra Sharma commented that this is the sign that they are ‘immediately from the spiritual world’ and that this gives us more insight to what Jesus said: “To enter heaven one should become a child’.

As hippocampus is responsible for inducing theta waves, modern research says it is also connected with potentiation of long term memory, damage to hippocampus leads to Alzheimer’s desease. It is also mentioned that Alzheimers desease is connected with low hitrogen sulphide level in the brain, which may lead us to understand that hidrogen sulphide and hippocampus may be connected. As genesis of hitrogen sulphide is linked to ability to enter hibernation state and sustain long periods of no heratbeat, no oxigen and extremely low temperatures – and immortality! Physically it is connected to hippothalamus – the spot where Khechary mudra is done.

Many practitioners, yogis, meditators, etc seek to induce theta waves. They try different techniques of yoga nydra, listening to special music and viewing special pictures that would induce theta state. One problem is that once the exercise finishes – the state of mind is gone. Shri Shailendra Sharma’s comment was that it is not so much the practice, but rather constant living on shamshan and practice are responsible for that state of mind.

Shri Shailendra Sharma’s alpha waves were not different from alpha waves recorded on the previous subjects, except the observation that answering questions did not trigger alpha waves the way they would be triggered on other subjects. Alpha waves are the ones registered in rapid eye movement phase of the sleep, it is demonstrated by tibetan meditators in visualisation meditative techniques, it is associated sometimes with self-healing and inside-harmonisation, as well as creativity. The suggested interpretation is in line with the one given above for the theta waves.

Shri Shailendra Sharma’s beta waves were low and remained low. No answer or physical activity triggered a rise in beta waves. Beta waves are usually associated with awake state of mind, alertness and readiness for action.

Very low alpha waves when remembering or performing physical acts, high theta waves of twillight state of mind, accompanied with low activity of beta waves makes us think, as Shri Shailendra Sharma coined the phrase, that the body is operated directly from the spirit.

Shri Shailendra Sharma stopped his pulse on the right hand twice during the recording and both times there was a splash in fluctuation of the recorded electrical activities in all channels being monitored, after which almost flat lines were being recorded until the pulse was willfully started again, which was accompanied by another splash in electric activity in all channels. Ability to stop the pulse and willful control over electrical activity in all parts of the cortex is something to alone startle medical scientists.

A consideration must also be taken of the thought that, as Shri Shailendra Sharma describes himself, the speed at which the mind operates is to be increased multifold with the practice he does. Therefore, it might also have been the case that brainwaves were in fact fluctuating at much higher magnitude, but, at the same time, at frequencies above the registration resolution capacity of the device. As such they could have appeared flat over the recording, on the contrary to what was happening in fact on the cortices of Shri Shailendra Sharma’s brain.

Mataji’s recording has shown similar signs of outstanding encephalogram, as Shri Shailendra Sharmas, however, same traits were expressed to a slightly lower magnitude. Hence everything said above about Shri Shailendra Sharma is almost equally applicable to Mataji: the body being animated by the spirit, the mind being in twillight state, very calm and conscious, with much lower influence of unconscious inert delta-state.

It has also been noted that Mataji may be more emotional, more responsive to music, it seems that listening to music involves her physically, in motion.

Maybe high theta and low other waves point towards that state of mind, which is described as the state when no impressions, or samskars are left, or are being hosted in the body. That can be noted from both Shri Shailendra Sharma’s and Mataji’s recording.

Mahatmaji’s reading was different to Shri Shailendra Sharma’s and Mataji’s.

All mental waves (taken from the frontal lobe area) appeared to be extremely low, magnitude of delta waves stayed on the same level as three other types of waves. It suggests that Mahatmaji may always be in a very alert, however not anxious state, extremely concentrated, focused, ready, to the degree of self-induced trans or self induced hypnosis, as was commented by a psychologist present at the time recordings were made. He may seldomly experience truly unconscious state as when in deep sleep.

When asked to remember a design of a metal construction alfa and beta waves went up, which suggests that he not only visualizes the design but also his hands know and feel how to make it.

However, when asked to remember the sequence of Puja he does every day, only theta waves would become activated, as if no memory, but the deep self is involved with the sequence.

When listening to music alpha waves went up, which suggested an ability not only to hear, but to a certain extent to visualize, and, even live in the music, as Shri Shailendra Sharma described Mahatmaji’s state. When, however, a name of Shiva was recitated, only theta waves were present.

Shri Shailendra Sharma described this state as a ‘self-less Puja’ that has been grown deep into their lives.

Additional comments on the Electroencephalographic research of Shailendra Sharma
After the EEG research of Guruji, many of the facts require a more detailed and deep consideration from the point of view of clinical psychiatry and psychology.
First, let’s consider the most well-known facts about theta and delta rhythms, the cases of their registration, and manifestation in everyday life.

Theta rhythm recorded from 4 to about 8 hertz, high electric potential of 100-150 micro volts, high amplitude waves. Detected in a state of consciousness between sleep and awakening or before the sleep, most often from 1 to 3 minutes- for the same reason called the twilight state of consciousness; this is the variation of the state of hypnotic trance, or hypnologic state. Delta rhythm is in the frequency below 4 Hz.
When you are in Theta state, the person receives greater access to the subconscious part of the mind through the weakening of the protective psychological mechanisms. In this regard, the border between subconscious and consciousness – it become thin or disappears, respectively, so information can easily move in both directions: from the outside world into the subconscious and back.

Such a state allows a person is very easy to memorize or to learn foreign language, or any other information; the brain is able to remain focused for a long time, this state is ideal for superstudy and all learning processes.
Aware of this possibility, many great men used different, fairly simple techniques to enhance the theta waves, and as a result of this state- extracting ideas from the subconscious. For example, a person working for a long time goes to sleep in a comfortable chair with a heavy metallic ball in hand and at the time of the transition from twilight state to sleep the body relaxes, the ball dropped down, man awoke from the sound of hitting the ball on the floor and for some time “enjoyed” an unusual condition and ideas pulled from the subconscious.

Another interesting fact that “normal” adult human theta rhythm recorded in a state of deep psychological stress and depicts activity of nerve processes in relation to negative emotions, depressive state of hunger and pain.
How do we compare these seemingly contradictory patterns: on the one hand creative ideas and solutions with other depressive states, – the key was in the biochemistry of the brain. In theta state of consciousness the brain produces an enormous amount of endorphins (happiness hormones). In normal human brain, shift in the theta mode when depressed – is a defensive reaction to stress, when using the endorphins – nature is trying to help people cope with depression.
The delta rhythm brain sends a signal to the maximum growth hormone release and body processes are activated self-regeneration and self-healing; processes, strengthen the immune system.

From the standpoint of clinical psychiatry – with organic brain lesions initially detected increase of theta rhythm; in the inoperable stage, dominating in all the rhythms of the brain become delta rhythm.
Brain average person works at frequencies delta rhythms in finding him in a state of deep sleep or in finding him in a state of hypnosis.
Delta rhythm is largely present in people capable of self-healing and healing others.
If the patient is in a coma, when the dominant rhythm of the delta have a favorable prognosis for his recovery (which again speaks of hidden options to recovery). The emergence and strengthening of the alpha rhythm in coma – a poor prognosis and 90% of cases leads to death, although from the perspective of an outside observer should be the opposite.
Unfortunately, modern medicine treats the protective mechanisms theta and delta waves as a pathology and not giving a chance to help the brain’s own body itself – with medication evens theta and delta waves to the state standards with the dominant alpha and beta rhythm, thus giving a false signal that “everything is in order the body is healthy, no need to fight. ” With Disabling the self-healing organism is forced to get help from the outside in the form of medicines.
Due to the rapid disappearance of theta waves in consequence of the complexity of finding a similar state there is very limited research in the so-called “Normal people”.

Based on the foregoing information with respect to theta and delta rhythms would like to place some emphasis and to draw parallels in the practice of Kriya, stressing the importance of understanding of the brain and nervous system as a whole in the context of the earlier study.

Any of the practitioners of Kriya Yoga is a familiar feeling of causeless joy, coming during or after practice: the reason for this is hormones that are released during the transition of the brain in theta mode. And depending on the level of practice this state can last more or less.
Confirming the words of Guruji that Kriya Yoga provides an opportunity to know yourself – it must be emphasized that while in the theta rhythm we make the border between the conscious and subconscious thinner and thinner. The practice of Kriya Yoga allows the brain to gradually sink into a state of theta rhythm, and as the adaptation to retain a state of increasingly longer period and to freely explore our own subconscious.
Guruji’s words: “With practice you will become more sensitive …”being at theta waves – psychic protection barriers cease to block the work of perception allowing consciousness to directly receive information from the outside world.
The ordinary person has no opportunity in the waking state to get access to the subconscious, it requires special techniques such as hypnosis (to put him in the delta rhythm), but hypnosis most often takes place outside of human intervention, as well as in a hypnotic state is dominant delta rhythm, and the delta rhythm, the efficiency of the minimum as No work at the level of consciousness and leaving hypnosis a person loses the experience. Yogi same time works on all levels, also staying in the mind of working with the subconscious.
Become well understood the great importance emphasized by Guruji’s evening practice after falling asleep where we get a “darshan” of active processes of regeneration nervous system and rejuvenate the tissues as a result of practice. That is why the serious practice of Kriya – Yoga, looks younger than his years and very quickly restored.

And in conclusion quotes from the major comments to the EEG Guruji: Answers Guruji is not reconstructed from memory knowledge, and come from the heart, the soul; brain Guruji is in a twilight state between sleep and waking. If we interpret the rhythm theta Guruji language of psychology, we can say that consciousness Guruji seamlessly works on all levels without having blocked the subconscious, like normal people. This unbelievable state of consciousness, when you can operate all the brain layers, is the result of kriya yoga. It gives us possibilities to learn our brain better, to be more creative and open-minded, and not to use all kinds of stimulators because of we have our own endorphins. And also it gives us a great desire to practice kriya and to have more researches.

One more mysterious thing was discovered while this experiment. For the normal person beta-rhythm  is inseparably connected with physical activity. But on the video you can see, that when Guruji even moving or drinking chay, – beta-rhythm remains in zero level. It’s totally impossible in normal condition. But now the answer came from Bhagavad Gita.

त्यक्त्वा कर्मफलासङ्गं नित्यतृप्तो निराश्रयः ।

कर्मण्यभिप्रवृत्तोऽपि नैव किंचित्करोति सः ॥४-२०॥

tyaktvā karmaphalāsaṅgaṁ nityatṛptō nirāśrayaḥ ।

karmaṇyabhipravṛttō’pi naiva kiṁcitkarōti saḥ ॥ 4-20॥

Without support, ever satisfied and withdrawn from the company of the fruits of karma, he does nothing even when he is inclined towards karma.

Comment: Having taken a comprehensive experience of the immensity of their mind, such great men know the true character of the ultimate, imperishable Time that manifests the consciousness of the mind. Well aware of the state of their self-being, they know the Time and remain surrendered to the Time. They do nothing even when they are doing something; similarly they do everything even when not doing anything.
